Pinchy nerve with pain to the arm??
Shooting arm pain? Grip feels weaker? Tingling or numbness to the arm/hand?
Sound familiar?
This could be a pinched nerve in the neck. Whilst the term pinched nerve is not strictly medical, it is used to describe an injury/temporary damage to the nerve which results in the symptoms below:
Symptoms can present as heaviness in the arm, burning pain, tingling, pins and needles or numbness, shooting/burning pain. Sometimes pain isn’t felt through the whole arm, but at different parts like the elbow.
How can we help? Starting with correct medication to help alleviate the inflammation around the nerve, anti inflammatories can help, or speak to your GP/Pharmacist.
As Physiotherapists, our area of expertise in this condition focuses on helping reduce muscle spasm and gently improving the movement of the nerve as this can reduce the arm symptoms.
Exercises for home will continue the movements for nerve mobility which we will teach/advise on.
The good news – most people will recover from this, though if symptoms persist with treatment, we can refer you for further investigation into the cause.
