Menopause officially starts 1 year after the date of your last ever period.
The store of eggs has depleted.
Peri menopause is the indication, and symptoms of declining ovarian function. It is the lead up to menopause.
Menopause average age = 51
Some will stop periods in their 20’s or 30’s or even as a child (premature ovarian insufficiency)
Early menopause = <age 45
Causes:
Age (natural hormone reduction)
Surgery (Hysterectomy and/ or removal of ovaries)
Treatment for cancer (chemotherapy/radiotherapy)
Type 1 diabetes
Addison’s disease
Down’s syndrome
